CAMBERLEY CC register as a Limited Company to limit trustee and member liability

At the end of August 2005 after over three years of effort Camberley Cricket Club became registered under the Industrial Provident Societies Act 1965, which is regulated by the FSA (Financial Services Authority).

Camberley is a large club and in this more litigious world the Trustees were becoming concerned at the potential for significant claims being made upon them and upon its members to the extent they exceed insurance cover and the realisable asset value of the Club.  After considering a wide range of options this route was adopted in view of its limited impact on current operations and tax implications.  This structure is common within rugby clubs and County cricket clubs but not at the individual cricket club level.

The club is already giving advice to a couple of local clubs so any club wishing to understand more about the process should initially contact Dave Muir, Hon Treasurer at the Club (01276 512722) or preferably by email

The CCC Board is very pleased to announce that Don Shelley, who amongst other things is the Middlesex CCC scorer, has kindly agreed to become our official “archivist”.  This is a very important role given the forthcoming move of the CCC offices as we are anxious that no important records are lost as a result of our moving office.  Don is currently documenting all the files in our New Malden office (a daunting task) and will personally take care of those records which relate to CCC history.  In due course Don will sort and arrange our archives so that we are able to make an appropriate historical statement on reaching our centenary in 2015.  On behalf of all the members the Board would like to say a big thank you to Don for offering his time to this undertake this task.
